Cower in fear for your continuity, Marvel Universe, 'cause 11/11 is Solo Tabletop Gaming Appreciation Month, and, today, I'm rolling out my Marvel Solo Heroclix Campaign!
PHASE 1, REGION 1, GAME 1: Federal Reserve Bank of NY ("The Bank" map)

Hoping to steal from the rich to give to the super-powered and f-ing insane, the U-Foes brazenly bashed into the Federal Reserve Bank of NY to make a withdrawal with their fists and/or other people's skulls. Fortunately for the bank's helpless staff, the unemployed Heroes for Hire were just outside in a small tent city protesting the bank as a representation of economic inequality, so it was totally convenient for them to come to the rescue!
Though Heroclix veterans would figure a battle with these combatants to be significantly one-sided in favor of the Heroes, this solo variant's "Deployment Orders" make every turn a potential surprise, and, happily for me, the surprises came early and often! The Heroes did not fair as well as the U-Foes when it came to initial activation, and the baddies were able to position themselves strategically to deal the first clicks of damage!

With the Heroes never quite able to get their battle-groove on, the U-Foes kept up the pressure with two rolls for a rally and a few lucky shots on Power Man/Iron Fist. Ironclad landed a serious blow to the duo, and it only took a hit or two of X-Ray's Radiative Bursts (Pulse Wave) to finish off the most famous of out-of-work super heroes! When Falcon swooped in to try to set things right, he couldn't roll higher than a 4!

Eventually, only Black Widow remained, but the feisty redhead - hurt by Vapor's poison gas - was actually able to get rid of Vector on her own while avoiding X-Ray's deadly radiation! (NOTE: Given the chance, I would not have chosen Scarlett Johansson to play Black Widow in The Avengers movie. It should have been Olga Kurylenko. Go look her up.) The Widow showed no signs of surrendering despite the high probability of a rout, which I fully expected would occur.
But it didn't happen! Instead, when things looked bleak for the Widow, a Double 6 Combat Event occurred - rescue a friendly character! Power Man/Iron Fist got back in the game at full strength!

With Black Widow on her Outwit click, the return of Power Man/Iron Fist spelled certain doom for the U-Foes. The Widow stripped X-Ray of his Phasing, and it was only a matter of time before Power Man turned the villain into a cool new headband. However, before that could happen, the U-Foes routed, and that meant X-Ray and Vapor would survive to fight another day...
To be clear, though the Heroes got the win, that doesn't matter on its own in this campaign; it's all about surviving. The remaining two U-Foes, though weakened, will now move on to the Phase 2, Region 1 game (Avengers vs. The Masters of Evil) on the Brooklyn Bridge along with Power Man/Iron Fist and the Black Widow. I can't wait!
So, lots of surprises in this inaugural game! A great start!
