9Qs: The League of Ambivalent Alignment, Q1-3

Continued from the setup...

The League of Ambivalent Alignment: Dr. Moonlight, Matterhorn, & Atom Bombshell
Heroic Motivation: Be a great super hero team, despite their flaws.

[Prior to Q1, I use Dr. Moonlight's Super Science to create three one-shot "Moon Rings." Each can be used one time for a 3D Energy Control (moonlight) effect - one for a shield, one for a physical attack, and one for a mental attack identical to the Mental Blast of the Moon Suit.]

1. What looming hostility inherent within the setting unexpectedly comes into conflict with the heroic motivation, threatening to worsen over time?

Be the GM first:
Story Cube: Pyramid
Encounter: An enemy takes aggressive action against unsuspecting victims and the heroes.

Early one evening, the upscale neighborhood of Brightside is suddenly trapped within an enormous pyramid-shaped prison of semi-transparent, humming blue energy. The barrier is the work of the inscrutable alien villain Galaxian who hovers above the apex of the pyramid, his eyes glowing blue. Residents exiting their hillside homes to examine what's happened sigh with irritated resignation as yet another Emporium City super villain, albeit an otherworldly, enigmatic one, threatens their freedom and safety.

Be the player next:
Dr. Moonlight, Matterhorn, and Atom Bombshell are at Dr. Moonlight's Brightside mansion finalizing their plans to look awesome by "being heroes to those dirty poor people" in the rough neighborhood of Burnside when Galaxian's pyramid prison appears. Frustrated that they're now stuck in Brightside, they try to get through the blue barrier (Rating 36), but miserably fail. Atom Bombshell gives Galaxian the finger.

Be the GM once more:
Galaxian doesn't comprehend Atom Bombshell's finger. Bystanders watching the trio roll their eyes and patiently wait for real heroes to save the day.

2. What overtly troubling event remotely tied to the results of Question 1 occurs, confirming that something seriously adverse to the heroic motivation is afoot?

Be the GM first:
Story Cube: Fish
Encounter: Intrigue & Combat

A swirling eddy of energy suddenly appears overhead in the sky. Out of the energy whirlpool emerge nine warriors, scale-armored from head to toe and riding individual hover disks. The warriors glide downward, each bearing a long tendril of writhing energy that they whip outward in an attempt to snatch human prey below them. Dr. Moonlight's neighbors cry out for help as they flee toward the safety of their homes.

Be the player next:
Dr. Moonlight hates his neighbors and is content to let them get grabbed up by the warriors, but Matterhorn thinks it would be better to save them. The sooner this energy pyramid is gone, the faster the three of them can go to Burnside and get good press by rescuing a few lucky members of the great unwashed masses from whatever. So, the heroes spring into action: Dr. Moonlight targets warriors with Mental Blasts that drive them insane and send them crashing into expensive homes; Matterhorn uses Super Strength to throw luxury cars at enemies hovering out of reach; and Atom Bombshell punches bystanders, knocking them clear of the grasping tendrils.

Be the GM once more:
The surviving warriors flee back into the eddy while the residents of Brightside stand flabbergasted at the "help" they've just received.

3. What elements of the results of Questions 1 and 2 suddenly get twisted in a surprising manner, increasing the danger to the heroic motivation?

Be the GM first:
Story Cube: Footprint
Encounter: Revelation & Combat

A walkway emerges from the swirling eddy and stretches all the way down to the main street of Brightside. A small army of scale-armored foot soldiers marches down the walkway. Giving the commands at the top of the walkway is a fully and ornately armored futuristic warrior who bellows: "Do not fail again! Find the human Lucas Luna and bring him to me!"

Be the player next:
Dr. Moonlight gasps at the sound of his secret identity being shouted by the leader of the attacking force, and he has no intention of being found. He tells Matterhorn and Atom Bombshell to pretend to help the attackers by leading separate squads of foot soldiers into his neighbors homes and doing away with them there. Dr. Moonlight does the same and realizes that the foot soldiers do not know who he is while he is in his hero guise. The foot soldiers are all knocked out, though several homes in Brightside are going to need the services of a very, very good interior decorator.

Be the GM once more:
The warrior leader at the top of the walkway shakes his fist wrathfully (and contractually, as it is expected of super villains to commence fist-shaking at this point in their operations).

Next, Qs 4-6. (I have no idea what's going to happen...)
