Wow! The Young Avengers and Attuma's Atlanteans! This is the line-up of combatants one brings to a Heroclix Approved Play Tournament when one wants to epically suck! But - ah! - the joys of the solo game! When a game isn't all about winning or losing, it can be all about letting the characters dance their dance the way that they want to dance, even when that dance is the Hokey-Pokey.
So, rising out of the depths and exploiting the map with the most squares of water terrain, Attuma led his misguided undersea people on an attack of the surface world, and the Young Avengers took the initiative to send them back to Jack Kirby's Locker!
Right from the start, the Young Avengers were able to make the most out of the situation, even though the Atlanteans gained Stealth while occupying squares of water terrain. Patriot and Hulkling got in close and got swarmed, but they held their own valiantly despite the trident-poking they took.

Not far off, the female Hawkeye and Wiccan took point on elevated terrain. Though the stealthed Atlanteans could not be targetted, Attuma could be, and, in a mistake on my part after moving Attuma in for the kill on Hulkling, he suddenly found himself within reach of Hawkeye's bow thanks to her range-extending Focused Training special power (which I had forgotten about until I checked her character card). She nailed his briny butt two turns in a row!

But the tide suddenly turned (pun) when a stray Atlantean took out Ironlad and made his way up to the tower, stabbing Hawkeye viciously! The swarm of Atlanteans soon got the better of Hulkling and Patriot. Patriot got KO'd by Attuma's Tidal Wave special power (a rare special power that would probably never get used in a Heroclix Approved Play Tournament), and Hulkling just couldn't get a shot in. At this point, I was certain Attuma and his people would prove victorious!
Then - - Double Fives on a Deployment Roll for the Young Avengers! A reinforcement arrived, and it was the very angry Stature!

Stature started taking out sea-dwellers faster than Takeru Kobayashi at a clam-eating contest! Once she released the swarm's pressure off Hulkling, the two were able to clean up the ocean pretty easily. Wiccan got rid of the attacker on Hawkeye's back, and the Young Avengers wiped the battlefield of every blue invader. No rout!
So, Hulkling, Hawkeye, Wiccan, and Stature will move on to the Phase 2, Region 1 game, though only Stature does so at her clix dial's starting line. Still, it'll definitely give the Avengers an advantage over the Masters of Evil when that game gets played.
All in all, this was an entertaining match between two charmingly unusual Heroclix teams that would never see any action if I only used them for competitive play. I really appreciated the opportunity to get them into battle!
