The Twelve Fiefdoms, Randomly-Generated Setting

Recently, I transitioned the World vs. Hero blog into a neater, much better organized site for player reference.

The newest content on this very new site is Jeff Pierce's "Twelve Fiefdoms," a simple but intriguing fantasy setting created with the Mythic-powered Random World Generation rules posted on the site.

Whether playing solo RPGs or solo war games, the solo player is always better served staging action in a world that is open to discovery rather than completely known. Even when recreating well-documented historical conflicts in the real world, leaving oneself open to an uncharted geographic area or an unknown political, social, or cultural climate invites surprise, and being surprised is the goal of most solo gamers!

So, why not create a setting concept from scratch? There's nothing more potentially surprising than a location that you don't know anything about because it doesn't exist yet! If you embrace the idea of narrative imperatives in solo war gaming, starting play within a randomly-created setting can be a great technique for solo success!

To see random world creation in process, read Jeff's annotated "Twelve Fiefdoms" at the new WvH site HERE.
